Getting the right dress that fits can be a hassle especially when going for shopping. You could see a
beautiful outfit on the rack and take it home only to find out it doesn’t fit. Many times, we get clothes that are either too big or small and end up stashing them up in our closet until when we either gain or lose weight.
Getting dresses that fit are so important because a good fit is the key to looking fabulous and confident every day. You look terrific in clothes that fits properly so wearing clothes that isn’t the right fit makes you spend the whole day adjusting your sleeves, tugging at the hem of your dress or pulling on your waistband and this is definitely not a great confidence builder because you become so self-conscious that you constantly look over your shoulders all the time just to be sure no one is watching you. But think about that one cloth that you have which is your favorite piece of all time that makes you look like a million bucks. I bet it fits perfectly and doesn’t require any pushing, pulling or tugging when you wear it. The difference is just that it FITS! A perfectly fitted dress does a lot to your looks and confidence so; invest more in perfect fitted pieces.
Everyone at some point have this fitting issues but by learning about sizing and choosing the right fits, you can find and get clothes that makes you happy and feel happy in.
TAKE PROPER MEASUREMENTS
The most accurate way to get proper body measurement is to go to a professional. It is almost impossible to take your measurements yourself accurately. This can be done at a clothing store or at a tailor’ or seamstress’. Take accurate measurements of your hips, shoulders, waist, bust etc. and while at it, do not suck in your tummy for instance as it may alter the accuracy of size and lead to poor fitted clothes.
DON’T DEPEND ON SIZE TAGS
Size tags can be misleading half the time. Size standards differ between designers, cloth patterns and manufacturers. Some designers most time tag smaller size number on large clothes in an attempt to appeal to your emotions. I have been a victim a couple of times. Also the number-letter system (small, medium, large, extra-large) has no fixed size so the dimensions on such clothing may vary.
SHOP CLOTHES FOR YOUR BIGGEST PART
Body shape differs among individuals and as such, there are people that may have wider shoulders, larger busts or even bigger hips compared to the standard size clothing manufacturing companies work with. If you have a wider shoulder for instance, you can get shirts or dresses in a bigger size and then balance the non-shoulder proportions by adjusting to fit. If you have a different shape and size that vary from the standard size, you will have a hard time finding clothes that fit except your clothes are specially fitted afterwards or tailored to fit as these are the best options for you.
TRY ON CLOTHES
The more you try on clothes before purchase, the less of a gamble stocking your wardrobe with pieces becomes. Try on several different sizes in the changing room and view before a full-body mirror or you can go with someone who will give you an honest opinion. Make sure clothes fit comfortably, neither tight nor loose. Check out your back side as well and make sure it fits right too. Lift up your arms and legs, sit on a chair as well because a well fitted cloth won’t feel restrictive.
GO TO A TAILOR
You may end up finding a great piece but it just might need a few adjustments to achieve the perfect fit. Reach out to your tailor or seamstress, they will be happy to have your business. The dresses you buy are for use now and not to be stored up until when it fits so adjust your clothes from time to time when need be to constantly stay fitted or alternatively you can learn to adjust yourself.
INVEST IN CUSTOM CLOTHING
Made-to-order clothing is a breath of fresh air for anyone who has trouble finding a proper fit. Designers will work with you to achieve the fit that you want.
